Serving the World

There are many ways that our church community can reach out to the world with the gifts we have been given.  Many times we look for ways to partner with other service organizations to help those in need.  And sometimes, we see a way that we can offer immediate assistance.

Get involved as we serve others through...

St. Mark's on the Hill - House of Ruth Food Pantry

Every Saturday from 10am-2pm the food pantry is open to all who are in need.  On Tuesdays from 10am to 2pm, the staff from House of Ruth serves those suffering from intimate partner violence.  We both collect food items for the food pantry.  Bring canned goods and other non-perishables to church and support the food pantry, drop off items during office hours or on Sunday, fill up the wagon in the back of church.  Click here for a list of items.

Milbrook Elementary School

St. Mark's is zoned for this Baltimore County Elementary School just south of us, off Reisterstown Rd.  The school reflects the diversity of our neighborhood in race and culture, but does not reflect the economic diversity of Pikesville.  77% of the student body is on Free And Reduced Meals, which reflects that many families are struggling with poverty.  We are building a relationship with this school so that we might support the student body who begin their education at Milbrook.  This has included school supply drives, connecting them with our food pantry, and a winter coat drive. Stay tuned in church announcements or contact Joe Zollickoffer about this ministry.

Gilead House

We partner with Episcopal Refugee Immigrant Center Alliance (ERICA) to offer housing to people in the asylum process who are without the ability to work or recieve benefits from the government.  In the Gilead House, people live together in community and safety as they await the resolution of their asylum case with the Immigration courts.  So far, Asylees we have housed come from Uganda, Nigeria, and Burundi.  It is a privilege to build community with them and assist them on their journey towards a new home.  If you are interested in working with the residents at the Gilead House, please contact Scott King or Adrianne Cusick.

Episcopal Service Corps - Maryland, interns live in community at St. Micheal's and All Angels church and work at various non-profits around the city.  We support their ministry year as our rector is their chaplain and we welcome them in to the life of the diocese.

12 step programs (AA and NA)

Recovery groups meet in the Parish Hall over the course of the week.  For many in the area, St. Mark's may not be the place where they worship, but we are the place where a higher power has led them into health and wholeness.  We are blessed to partner with so many people committed to recovery from drugs and alcohol addiction.

House of Ruth

Adelante Familia and Si Puedo are the spanish Language programs serving Latino families suffering with intimate partner violence.  Adelante serves the victims of violence and Si Puedo is a program for the perpetrators.  Both groups use space in our buildings during the week that the cycle of violence in homes and relationships will end and healing will begin.
